How to Create a Brand for Yourself…
Building a brand board for yourself is a great way to visually define your personal brand. It serves as a guide that captures the look, feel, and vibe of how you present yourself whether online, in resumes, on social media, or in your portfolio.

What Is a Personal Brand Board?
A brand board is a visual summary of your personal brand’s aesthetic and identity. It usually includes:
- Your name/logo (or signature style)
- Color palette
- Fonts/typefaces
- Inspirational images or mood board
How to Build Your Personal Brand Board?
- Define Your Brand Identity
Before you start designing, ask:
What are 3–5 words that describe my brand personality? (e.g., bold, minimal, approachable, smart, creative)
This gives you an understanding of what the overall look and feel should be in the outcome.
Who is your audience or who do you want to attract?
Are you targeting YouTube viewers, hiring managers, or industry peers? For example, if you’re pursuing a career in film, your audience might include producers, collaborators, or recruiters in the entertainment world.
What vibe do you want to give off (professional, artistic, modern, etc.)?
Something everyone has to ask themselves is how do I want to present myself to the world?
- Choose a Color Palette
Pick around 3–5 colors that fit who you are trying to present:
- Main color: The core identity (used most)
This should give off who you are and really embody you as a person.
- Accent color(s): Adds contrast and style
This is the pair to the other color that helps emphasize the main color and logo.
- Neutral/base: White, black, grey, or beige for balance
This is the best way to help make you pop on a screen by giving a more neutral base to bounce off of.
- Pick Your Fonts
I highly recommend DaFont.com this is a great place to really explore your style and have fun with some amazingly creative fonts.
Select 2 typefaces:
Headline font: Bold or unique for names and titles
Body font: Simple and readable for longer text
Make sure the fonts is reasonable, recognizable, and over all fit together as a unit.

- Gather Inspiration
Create a mini mood board with:
Images that represent your style (workspaces, fashion, photography, quotes, color textures)
* In my case I added my photos and stills from things I had shot because that was the real representation of what my brand is all about.
5. Add Your Personal Logo or Name Style
If you don’t have a logo, your name in a chosen font can be your “logo” for resumes, websites, etc. Make it consistent across materials.
However you can create a logo, try to draw inspiration from where you want to go or who you want to be and just start sketching out ideas. You can use illustrator or even Canva to help design digitally once you have a better idea of what you are looking for.
I based my design on the screen of a film camera and worked off of that.

Creating a personal brand and visualizing it through a brand board is a the next step toward presenting yourself with clarity and confidence to the world. It’s not just about looking polished; it’s about being intentional with how you show up in your career, online, and in every opportunity. By defining your identity, selecting meaningful visuals while staying true to your voice, you create a brand that reflects who you are and where you want to be heading in the future. Whether you’re applying for jobs, building a creative portfolio, or growing an audience, your brand board will serve as your visual North Star keeping you focused, consistent, and memorable.
Your brand already exists, this is your chance to shape it.
