If a picture is worth a thousand words, a group of related photos must tell a whole story. In my undergraduate program I studied photography and the impact it has on human emotion. One of my favorite photographers is Annie Leibovitz. She is widely known for her portrait photography, and the way she expresses so much with so little.
The following three images convey different emotions and feelings. This is the kind of background I put into this week.
With all that being said, I wanted to get a better understanding of the process of creating a photo mood board and how to create one for different products.
What is a Mood Board?
A mood board is a group of photos, text, and other elements that can bring up similar emotions, help inspire ideas, and help visually show emotions. People can use them to gather inspiration for decorating a space, planning an event, sparking ideas for a logo, and selling a product.
First off, I decided to pick three different Converse shoes to base my mood boards around. When deciding the three shoes, I made sure to think about what mood board theme I wanted to go with.
Spring Brunch
I decided to start with a a light pink pair on converse and work my way around them. I went with the overall theme of Spring Brunch. I added in different types of flowers that added to the vibrances and show the blooming the mood board is conveying. I also added in women talking in a setting similar to brunch so give a friendly and lush vibe. This mood board is full of pastel colors, bright food, blossoming flowers and lush furniture.
Dark Academia
With this mood board is the complete opposite of the last, trying to use these images to give a more dark academia look. I put in images with a dark tone, a lot of deep reds and greens that really set the mysterious vibes. As the shoes stand out as a different piece, I wanted to use individualism as a way to express the kind of person who would wear these shoes. A stand out person in stand out shoes.
Time To Be Alive
This last shoe was all about the life of the party and rave culture. With bright purple, blue and pink the shoes really stand out and fit in all at the same time. This shoe is supposed to raise your heart rate a little. One that you can be jumping up and down all night in! These photos make you feel alive and free just like the shoes that they are representing.
